 2023 Preview

Talladega County Central finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Talladega County Central finished seventh in Class 1A region six with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Talladega County Central averaged scoring just 10.7 points a game. The Fighting Tigers also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 40.8 points a game.

The Fighting Tigers would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 0-19 record. Since 2010, Talladega County Central has gone a combined 42-89. Their 32.1% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 1A over the past thirteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Talladega County Central has managed to compile a record of 119-146. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 1A and 239th in the AHSAA.

The Fighting Tigers are led by head coach Acardia Garett who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 0-10 record in his first season at Talladega County Central. The Fighting Tigers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Garett.

Coach overall record as a head football coach in Alabama for one  stands at 0-10 (%).

The Fighting Tigers enter the 2023 season in the middle of a 24 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

This season, the Fighting Tigers will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region six. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Talladega County Central will be to simply win some games. Talladega County Central simply does not have the numbers to be competitive on the football field at this time. With just 60 students, the Fighting Tigers are one of the smallest schools playing the game and have little chance of being successful.

The Fighting Tigers open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Tarrant on Friday, August 25 at Alumni Field. Last year the Tarrant Wildcats finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in seventh place in Class 3A region five. The Wildcats closed out the regular season with a loss to Montevallo by a score of 21-14.

Talladega County Central and Tarrant have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Fighting Tigers have a 0-4-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2022 with Tarrant winning by a score of 27-6.
